For the last 3-4 years I have been experiencing a separation of my thumbnail from the quick starting where I contact the strings. My dermatologist said it was from "repeated trauma" and the answer was to rest it. It takes months to grow back. I've been playing with nails, fingerstyle and classical for 50 years or more. I don't like fingerpicks, don't want to change. Has anyone else experienced this? Any other solutions?

@jim-0 I used to play without a thumbpick but have started doing so since signing up for these lessons. I'm getting better at it and my accuracy seems to be improving. You might want to give it a try. My 1-4 fingernails seem to take longer to grow and are getting weaker as I age. That's another issue... :)

          Hi Jim!

I use acrylic on my nails, and that's my solution and my way to get a good tone. The thicker the nail is, the better - and they never break. Go to a nail-saloon and put on acrylic on your nails, then tell them you shape it yourself, and it will be so much easier. Most saloons are used to guitarists coming in to do "guitar nails". (Usually classical guitar players), so they kinda know what you're after. I do this maybe 7 times/year and I couldn't play without the acrylic nails.
          Kind regards/Emil

@emilernebro LOL, I was wondering if that was a solution before you posted this. I'll have to try it. Thanks.
