      @gpak Hi there!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for being part of the platform!!
Since I don’t know your level at the moment, I cannot say exactly what I would suggest you to start - but the most important thing is to get your thumb more independent from your fingers if you haven’t got that down already. So the the lessons called Fingertsyle basics is where I suggest everyone to start if they want to get into fingerstyle. After getting the thumb more independent, you can go in different directions depending in what your goal is. If you’re interested in playing solo guitar for others, I suggest you to try a couple of the tunes from the site that has a “boom chick” bass line. Like the tunes in the fingerstyle basics lessons, and then maybe Folsom prison blues, wellerman or something like that. If your also interested in improvisation and learning how to solo, I suggest you to start with the improv level one course and then level two, followed by “jazz up your blues”, “arpeggios”, “country guitar soloing”. Then move on to some jazz lines if you like that stuff too! There’s really a ton of stuff on this site that can help you become a better musician, and it’s really up to your own taste and what you’d like to be able to do with your music and your playing. Please let me know your level and what your goal is and I’ll suggest some ideas! Kind regards /E

      Hi Greg!
      Thank you for asking!

When I first learned about the altered scale, I used the concept "Melodic minor up a half step", because the melodic minor patterns were already familiar to me. So initially I used that concept, but nowadays I think in terms of the altered scale instead of thinking melodic minor.

The most important thing is to get the patterns under your fingers, and then use the scale over an altered chord resolving to its I chord of some form, to hear the notes. For instance, record yourself laying down a G7altered chord that resolves to a C minor or C major (in slow or free tempo), and use the G altered scale (Ab melodic minor) over the G7, and then resolve to C major or minor. Do this over and over and really listen to the notes within the scale relative to the G7 chord. After awhile you'll start to hear it better, cause in the beginning it can be tricky since the scale can sound almost too dissonant at times.

I have a really low action on my Maton guitar :) Daddario 12-53 but I change the 12 to a 14, so the top string is actually pretty heavy.
      Hope this helps Greg!
Have a wonderful day and thanks for checking out the lesson! :)

      Hi!
Thanks for asking and I'm really glad you're working on the lesson and that it has helped you to reach another level! Great work!!
As of now, I don't have that recorded in a slower speed - sorry! Half speed should sound OK when changing the tempo in the player at our site, but I get what you mean when we change to 1/4 of the speed it's difficult to hear what's actually happening. Sometimes it helps to just practice using the metronome for awhile and then go back to the backing track. Try it in a slower speed using only metronome and then see how you do when going back to the lesson backing track. Kind regards/Emil

      Ha en fin dag Björn!

      Hi there!

Thanks so much for watching my lessons! :)

That ending-lick is a quick improvised thing, I had to go back and watch to see what I did there. It's basically a blend of different scales and concepts. I use some chromatics as well as lydian dominant sounds. One thing that I did there that I use all the time, is that I'm playing a maj7 arpeggio down a whole step from the chord I'm playing over.
In other words, if you play over E7, you can go down a whole step and play a maj7 arpeggio! It sounds very nice! That's what I did just at the end of that lick :) try playing a Dmaj7 arpeggio over E7, and then resolve it on the major 3rd of the E7 chord.

      Have a great day!
      Kind regards/Emil

      Hi!

When I make a pull off like that, I mute the e string with my left hand index finger. I do it without thinking about it, and it will become something you do without thinking about it if you’ve done it enough times.

      Hi there!

Yes, you are absolutely right! Mistake by me!
I play that "pedal" note on the G string 9th fret (the note E).. In the notation and TAB I'm playing the major 3rd of that chord instead, as a pedal note.. That works too though! :)

      Thanks for letting me know!
      Kind regards/Emil

      Hi Rostislav!
Thank you for the very good question about the lesson "Voice Leading VOL. 1" !

In this lesson, (since it's volume 1) we mostly focus on the top voice of the chord, and we learn how to be creative and play melodies on top of the chord progressions using the diatonic major scale as well as arpeggio lines that connects the chords in a nice way. This is step one in learning about voice leading on guitar. How to be melodic in your chord melody and when you accompany someone on the guitar. This also helps you to learn more voicings on the instrument, which is important when you want to take the next step towards more advanced harmony and "voice leading" playing.

You can definitely use the concepts when you're creating your own arrangements, but this lesson is made for anyone who plays guitar and not necessarily only solo fingerstyle guitar players. In other words, these concepts works great no matter what constellation you're playing in.. solo, duo, or in a band setting.
In Vol. 2 however (this lesson is what I'm working on at the moment and will be released later this month), we're focusing more on the chromatic alterations, and how these voices can be moved in common chord progressions.
How to create great sounding progressions and voice leading, and how to use more altered chords in your accompaniment or solo guitar playing!
Stay tuned for Voice Leading VOL. 2, which I hope you'll enjoy too! :)

Have a wonderful week Rostislav, and thanks for being part of our community!
      Kind regards/Emil

Thank you for the nice message! :)
Yes, in order to improvise well over different changes, you need to be aware of the chords that fly by at all times. I think it's very important to start with a chord progression that you've heard a LOT! That's why it's always a good idea to start with the Blues! A simple three chord blues (12 bar blues) in any key is great. And try to outline the chord changes over the blues.

I'd strongly suggest the lesson Country Guitar: Soloing Concepts if you want to learn how to really follow the changes! We talk a lot about how to do that in this lesson, and we start off by working with the pentatonic scales to follow the changes - but we also use the mixolydian mode, chromatics and much more.
Then when you want to take the next step in learning how to follow the changes and add more tension to your playing, check out the lesson Jazz Up Your Blues, where we also talk about this subject.

Hope this helps, and have a great day! Thanks for being part of our community! :)
      Kind regards/Emil
